Just Watched “Summer Wars”

March 27th, 2010 by donshi

So, I just watched Summer Wars — directed by Mamoru Hosoda (of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time fame) and written by Satoko Okudera (also of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time fame) — and I enjoyed it a lot. Takeshige Youji (Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, etc) was the art director for the movie, and as you would expect, he did a fantastic job. The plot revolves around Kenji Koiso, an eleventh grade math genius, who breaks a code that causes the online world of OZ to be thrown into disarray. That’s about as much as I’ll say. The themes for the movie are “Internal Struggle of a Diverse Family meets Cyber Mayhem meets Love Story meets pseudo-standard Japanese Drama“. The movie clocks in at 1 hour & 44 minutes. It also won “Best Animated Feature Film” in three separate academys, including the Japanese Academy, Mainichi Film Concours and the Sitges International Festival.
Watch it.

Armageddon: Day One

March 22nd, 2010 by donshi

Tomorrow morning President Barack Obama is going to sign into law a Health Care bill that effects 1/6 of the U.S. Economy. Lets see what Twitter has to say about it;

WOAH GIRL, YOU NEED TO CALM DOWN! Is this seriously what American’s think about this Health Care bill? Do people want to latch onto the ideals of Ayn Rand at the cost of Social Justice and philanthropy? The CBO projects that this bill pays for itself within 20 years. It’s a good economic move, and just the right thing to do for Americans.
I guess people with a pre-existing condition just need to work harder. Pull themselves up by the bootstraps. No such thing as a free meal. — America is so depressing : (

This is Why America Can’t Have Good Things

PATRIOTS! KEEP YOUR POWDER DRY!!

Oh God no. Anything but this.

I guess million of Americans getting a basic human right is a travesty. Maybe people with pre-existing conditions should just learn to work hard enough to not-have-pre-existing-conditions so they can get Health Care. Regan 2012.

Yes.

I love satire.

J.C. Staff; Best Studio or Best Studio Ever?

March 14th, 2010 by donshi

J.C. Staff — the producers/animators of anime such as Toradora!, Zero no Tsukaima, Hayate the Combat Butler, Shakugan no Shana, Toaru Majutsu no Index, etc — have been gracefully chosen to do the Kaichō wa Maid-sama! anime, starting this April, and Bakuman, starting this fall. NHK has launched a anime page for the anime and it has been confirmed as a 25 episode series. || Ayumi Fujimura, of Seikon no Qwaser fame, has been chosen to be the voice actor for Misaki Ayuzawa in Kaichō wa Maid-sama!.
I’m pretty pumped for both of these shows. J.C. Staff usually has a pretty badass Fall line-up. Don’t forget that they are doing the third season of Shakugan no Shana starting this fall, too.
