This Week in Manga

November 5th, 2009 by donshi

[Listed in Order of Brilliance]
onepiece6
This Chapter of One Piece drove me to a single (very masculine) man tear. I’d rank this chapter in the top 5 One Piece chapters of all time. (In the good company of the Robin arc, Thriller Bark arc, etc). Read it here.
bleach4
In my opinion, the best chapter of Bleach in a very long time. Bleach has been fairly boring lately as the Karakura Town arc continues; but this chapter is bringing the older chapters full circle. Read it here.
beelzebub2
Beelzebub is fitting in well with the All-Star group of manga that WSJ runs. This weeks chapter is the most entertaining so far. Baby Beel & Oga make a great duo. Read it here.
airgear9
Air Gear (ran in Weekly Shōnen Magazine with mangas like Hajime no Ippo and Fairy Tail) has always been one of my favorite mangas. “The Great King”, Ito Ōgure, is a brilliant manga-ka with a bold since of humor. This chapter is building off of the Sleipner arc and is slowly drawing it to a close. Very powerful chapter. Read it here.
naruto2
This weeks chapter of Naruto is… well, it’s not bad. It’s just not as good as Bleach and One Piece. No surprises to be found this chapter. Read it here.

Week of July 27: WSJ Overview

July 24th, 2009 by donshi

bakuman1
This weeks Weekly Shonen Jump is pretty rockin’. The new One Piece is already out. So is Bleach, Naruto, Bakuman and To Love Ru. This issue also celebrates the 10th Anniversary of Naruto. Psyren, Beelzebub, etc are still not out yet. But the retail issue of Shonen Jump in Japan doesn’t even come out until this Monday. Kagijin, a new manga running in jump this week, isn’t out yet either. But I hear it’s going to be good. :3 Also, Akamaru Jump’s new teaser page is out and D. Gray Man is going to start running again.
